Pain Relief – Naturally

Pain Relief – Naturally

As a Fibromyalgia sufferer I know a thing or two about pain. I have certainly tried prescription and over the counter pain medications and completely understand that many people can’t do without them. I don’t take anything now however having discovered that there are other options that are available that offer a safe and natural alternative without the nasty side effects. I have found topical magnesium and turmeric (taken internally) to be two of these alternatives. You need to be consistent with them (I have found I need to incorporate them everyday) but if you suffer from either general aches and pains or chronic pain they might just be of benefit.

So many people are magnesium deficient due to the way in which our food is processed. For pain, magnesium each day can help to decrease these deficiencies, along with the pain you are experiencing.  The added magnesium will also provide you with more energy. However, you should first consult with a doctor if you have any kidney problems.

While the magnesium can help the muscles relax and reduce pain, a new study was printed in The Journal of Physiology which provides evidence that magnesium can also decrease nerve pain.

One of the major mechanisms associated with pain is the excessive stimulation of a chemical in the brain called NMDA. Any medications that claim to help decrease and balance this kind of pain also have the downside of causing significant side effects. Magnesium has been found to settle down NMDA without the added toxicity.

Magnesium is a supplement that can be found in most health food stores. While it may be helpful to some, it may also cause digestive upset for others. A great alternative is topical magnesium. Check out the range we have in store here Amazing Oils

Turmeric is another natural supplement that can help keep inflammation, toxins, pain, and cancers at bay. Turmeric is known in India as the “Queen of all spices.” Recent studies have found how this natural wonder can even treat Alzheimer’s and cancer. The following are just a few benefits of turmeric:

  • Fights inflammation naturally
  • Protects the brain
  • Reduces the risk of several types of cancer
  • Improves digestion
  • Protects the heart
  • Soothes arthritis symptoms
  • Delays ageing and improves longevity

If you would like to try turmeric, there are also many ways you can try it including adding one teaspoon to smoothies, juices, soups, curries, stir fries, homemade cultured sodas, and dressings on a daily basis. To really boost your intake you can also take turmeric tablets, drink it in a latte by using a mix such as MidasCup (which can also be added to smoothies). The benefit of both the tablets and MidasCup blends is the they contain black pepper to increase the Turmeric’s bioavailability.
